Wesley Barron found dead

According to the Teton County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Wesley Barron was found dead in Curtis Canyon earlier today.

Teton County Sheriff’s Deputies and Teton County Search and Rescue workers were dispatched to Curtis Canyon after Barron was reported missing.

Early reports indicate Barron left to go climbing around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

When Barron did not return home last night and failed to show up for work this morning, friends notified family, who began to search local climbing spots.

Barron’s car was found in a Curtis Canyon parking area, leading to notification of the sheriff’s office and further search efforts.

The Teton County Sheriff’s office is reporting that rescue personnel believe Barron was climbing alone and fell while “free soloing” cliffs in Curtis Canyon, but an official cause of death from the Teton County Coroner is forthcoming.

Barron is the son of Mark Barron, the Town of Jackson Mayor.
