Local teen killed in roller skiing accident
06/22/2009, 9:37 am by Chris HansonWilliam (Willie ) Neal was killed on Sunday evening after suffering injuries in a roller skiing accident in Fort Fairfield, ME. Reports indicated Neal was training with a friend when he was hit by a vehicle.
According to Fairfield police and reports from the Associated Press, Neil was roller skiing on the correct side of the road, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Eric Lunquist of Fort Fairfield.
The son of Bill and Mary Neal, Willie was a prolific member of the community, especially known for his achievements in nordic skiing and political activism.
Neil graduated from Jackson Hole Community School in 2008. He had deferred plans to attend Middlebury College for one year while training with the Maine Winter Sports Center, and hoped to earn a spot on the 2010 World Junior Biathlon Team.
Neal attended the Democratic National Convention in Denver last August and served as a delegate for the state of Wyoming, after being elected to represent younger generations of voters.
